About Me
I am a forty-six year old husband and father of two young boys. Throughout my life I have had an eclectic work history (please view my resume in standard #6). However, I have always been drawn towards teaching. I have grown up in a family of educators. My father was a high school band teacher for thirty-seven years and my mother is still an active music educator as well.
I have been a professional musician for the past twenty eight years and I believe strongly in using music as a tool in the classroom. I am musically active within my community. I am the conductor of the Port Alberni Community Concert band and I am the assistant conductor of a local community choir called Timbre!. I am a professional jazz trumpet player and have played with numerous groups and combos over the years. I continue to enjoy playing jazz whenever I have the opportunity.
I am an active person and enjoy playing hockey, basketball, soccer, tennis, and badminton. As a family we love to downhill ski, waterski, skate, swim, go camping and sail together. Recently, I have enjoyed coaching grade four and five basketball at my practicum school. I hope to coach floor hockey in the new year.
Currently I am very excited to be back at university again. I am enrolled in the Elementary Education Program at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC. I am in my second year of this program and I am enjoying myself immensely. Becoming a teacher is like coming home for me. It is where I feel the most comfortable. I have always had a gift when connecting with children. I enjoy teaching children of all ages and look forward to the ongoing journey of becoming an inspiring educator.
