Educators engage in professional development and reflective practice, understanding that a hallmark of professionalism is the concept of professional growth over time. Educators develop and refine personal philosophies of education, teaching and learning that are informed by theory and practice. Educators identify their professional needs and work to meet those needs individually and collaboratively.
Evidence #1
What I have learned
As I continue on this journey towards becoming a teacher, I have learned the importance of critical reflection. The ability to learn from my mistakes and to except every experience, good and bad, as an opportunity to learn. I have included the latest draft of my "Frame of Reference" above. This represents the ongoing process of refining my personal philosophies as an educator.
Evidence # 2
What I have learned
In my final practicum, I had the opportunity to attend weekly grade 8 team meetings where the grade 8 teachers discussed many of the issues facing their student’s learning. It was a wonderful opportunity for collaboration. Part of the meeting was dedicated to student concerns in which teachers were able to talk about individual student’s problems at home, and many other impedances to their learning. Also discussed were better practices in teaching teenagers and the latest research pertaining to that. Moreover, it is an opportunity to meet with administration and discuss student concerns/behaviors and possible solutions to these issues.
