Standard # 2
Educators are role models who act ethically and honestly.
Educators act with integrity, maintaining the dignity and credibility of the profession. They understand that their individual conduct contributes to the perception of the profession as a whole. Educators are accountable for their conduct while on duty, as well as off duty, where that conduct has an effect on the education system. Educators have an understanding of the education system in BC and the law as it relates to their duties.

What I have learned
As I have mentioned previously, I have grown up in a small community and I am extremely aware of how educators and professionals have to act with integrity and professionalism. It is important to realize that as educators, we are representatives of the profession. When it comes to interacting with the public, there are no "off" moments. As with any profession, teachers are part of a larger professional family for which they need to act in a professional manner at all times. I have chosen my ToonDo above to demonstrate that it doesn't matter where you are, always assume that the people around you may be connected to your school or profession in some way.

What I have learned
In a time of ever decreasing privacy, as technology continues to develop at an incredible rate, teachers have to be very aware of social media. Not only does practically every member of the public own a phone with a camera on it (or some kind of recording device) so do many of our students. Teachers have to be increasingly aware of their conduct inside and outside of the classroom. Teachers also have to be very aware of their online digital footprint. Writing blogs and opinion pieces can be misinterpreted and cannot be ‘undone’. As a matter of fact, anything on social media or the Internet at large cannot be ‘undone’. I became very aware of how teachers have to be wary of social media due to teaching an ICT 6 unit on Online Safety.
